5th to 6th Nov 2024 First visit to land

I travelled out to Portugal to look at a piece of land, just over 2000sq/m near Penamacor, here's how that went.

I rented a car in Faro which turned out to be a Nissan Juke, a fairly large car and drove the 500km overnight to arrive at the meeting place around 10am, no problems so far.  I met with the agent, and we went in his car to look at several properties in the area, up and down small narrow country lanes. One property I really liked and decided it was the one for me, having walked around the site I suddenly realised my cameras were still in the back of the Juke, no biggy, I'll just come back afterwards and take a few pictures.

We returned to the meeting point and filled out some paperwork, I checked my gear and got the agent to drop a pin on Whatsapp to the land, I got on the Juke and tried to get to the pin, the sensors in that car were constantly screaming at me with clearance of inches on either side, I didn't want to risk damaging a hire car so I tried taking the slightly wider tracks but couldn't find my way back to the plot. Plan B - I returned to the meeting place and parked up and set off on foot with cameras and drone in hand - but no phone - I'd left that in the car and by the time I realized I'd walked about a mile, no problem I think it's that way.....  nope, this way..... nope, maybe this path.... nope. Eventually I went for Plan C - get the drone up and have a look from the air - 40 minutes of flight time and still nope....  Got some amazing footage of the area though.

By now it was mid afternoon and I hadn't slept for 36 hours so I had to give up and started the journey back to Faro (Porto is closer) but Easyjet don't fly there at this time of year and it was a lot cheaper to fly to Faro AND rent a car than it was to fly to Porto with Ryanair. I drove about 4 hours, still not feeling tired, still buzzing with excitement, but decided to find a hotel or I'd be back at the airport way too early and not have had any sleep.  Booking.com to the rescue, found a nice little place about 5 miles off the motorway which was cheap and cosy, but there is a bug when you ask google maps to take you there...  It takes you past the hotel and about 5 miles out the other side of town to a route marker, which just happened to be route marker 666. I reset google by manually typing in the address and backtracked to the hotel, had a hot shower and went to sleep.

Me losing the plot walking around trying to find the plot
